Wetsuit outlook

Will you need a wetsuit at Ironman Leeds?

Water temperature at inland lake in August has typically been 16.6°C, ranging from 14.6°C to 17.9°C in eight of every ten years. Against IRONMAN / 70.3's thresholds for this race's 3800m swim, that means:

Wetsuit optional — and recommended

Up to and including 24.5°C (76.1°F) every athlete may wear a wetsuit and remain eligible for awards.

What the organiser says

Per the 2026 athlete guide: permitted up to and including 24.5°C, prohibited above it, and compulsory below 16°C. Maximum wetsuit thickness 5mm; De Soto Water Rover and Speedo Elite Triathlon wetsuits (forearm reinforcement) are banned.

Estimated from air-temperature history — no direct measurement of this water exists, and small, shallow venues tend to run a degree or two warmer than shown. The official temperature is taken an hour before the start, and only that reading decides the rule on the day.

Transitions

A single transition area is set up at Roundhay Park for both T1 and T2, with a short climb noted on the way out of T2.

Where Ironman Leeds starts and finishes

Ironman Leeds starts at Roundhay Park, Mansion Lane, off Princes Avenue, Leeds LS8 2HH and finishes at Waterloo Lake, Roundhay Park. We haven't been able to place those on a map accurately enough to show one — a pin in the wrong place is worse than no pin.

These are the start and finish points, not the route. Verus doesn't hold course files for this race, and drawing a line between two pins would be a guess you might end up training on. The official course map is the one to use: view it on the organiser's site .

Race Day Info & Checklist

On the day

  • Maurten is Ironman's official on-course nutrition brand globally — bike aid stations (2026: miles 13.2/34.1/47.8/68.6/82.2/103.1) had water, Precision Hydration 1000, bananas and Maurten bars/gels (black wrapper = non-caffeinated GEL 100, white = caffeinated GEL 100 CAF 100); run aid stations (roughly every 1.5 miles) added cola and sweet/salted snacks to the same line-up.
  • Free spectator parking is available at Soldiers Field, Roundhay Park.
  • Race pack (2026): bib number, ID wristband with QR code (worn all weekend — required to reclaim your bike/bags and for medical ID), compulsory swim cap, a sticker sheet, and an athlete backpack with three transition bags (Bike/blue, Run/red, Street Wear/white).
  • Timing chip worn on the left ankle for the whole race — it is on loan and you are charged for a replacement if it is not returned at the finish.
  • Non-drafting bike leg: a blue card (drafting) costs 3 minutes for each of a first and second offence before disqualification on a third; a yellow card (other violations) is a 60-second stop-and-go. T1 and T2 each carry a 10-minute time limit from entry to exit mat.
  • 40 Kona World Championship qualifying slots were on offer in 2026 (performance-based roll-down), claimed in person at the Monday awards ceremony — the Kona registration fee itself was $1,834 USD, card only.
  • Awards ceremony (2026): Monday 17 August, 11:00-13:00 at the Registration Tent — top 3 per age category and top 3 tri clubs; you must attend to claim an award, none are issued afterwards.
